• More and more broadcasters are requiring both camera rushes and deliverables to be backed up to LTO data tape.
• When rushes are sent to The Look we copy them to our data drives and we can then begin copying the data to LTO tape.
• The maximum that LTO6/7 can write is 160mb/sec. We find that in reality, we get 100mb/sec due to the way rushes are written to tape.
• The major broadcasters also require us to check the integrity of the data, which is a second read pass of the data written.
• This means that 1tb of data takes approximately 6 hours to transfer.
• Dramas shooting 4k+ data can easily shoot between 5-10tb per week, HD is only 2-3Tb per week.
• This means machine time of up to 60 hours per week here at The Look
• Our rates (unless stated otherwise) include the LTO stock cost.

Roughly 1 dpx file is around 8MB at HD and 35MB in 4K.

Therefore 1 hour would equate to:

HD: 720GB (0.72TB)

4K: 3.15TB
